Fuel Mileage?

Day one ride one, my first fuel mileage check came in at 56 MPG. I was happy, fuel injection is great. Now, 5500 miles later, I've dropped one tooth off the front sprocket, and my mileage has been in a steady decline. The most recent MPG was 42. What has happened? I know the one tooth hasn't changed things that much because after dropping the tooth, I was managing 53 MPG. It is wierd, sometimes the bike gives me 50+ MPG and sometimes 42 MPG. How I ride it doesn't seem to matter either. WFO, will net +50 sometimes, and 42 MPG other times.

So, any ideas? :?

how does it run? any misfires?

It runs great. No missing, no popping, pulls like a tractor, and nothing is screwing up. The mileage is just inconsistent and lower than I expected with FI.

Does your state use a winter blend ? I always get this complaint from Toyota customers when the winter blend is phased in.Has the temp dropped ? Are you in a different elevation ? No leaks I assume ? You can pull the plug & see if its darker than normal . Just some thoughts.

Yes, we do use a winter blend. I hadn't thought of that. Yes it's colder now by 60+ degrees, but the altitude is the same. I'm going to bet it's probably the fuel. Thanks.

I wonder how much of that loss is you riding the bike a lot harder now. ;-)

I get about 45mpg on my Husa570 and I say i'm a 60-70% rider (not that hard on the bike). 15x43 gearing.

That whole riding harder thing is the funny part. I've fueled when I was on the throttle the whole tank, and I had a better mileage number than when I was simply riding and trying to conserve fuel. Seriously, this has me baffled. I have started counting on the lower number on long rides just to be safe.
