Fuel Mileage for '04 FE650

I just got the bike and rode it on some dirt roads, heavy on the throttle, and averaged about 25 mpg. Seemed low, but what do I know. What should I expect? At that rate, I will only get about 60 miles from a tank. Sure had fun roosting.

The bike was jetted at about 4500' and I am running at about 1000'. Would that cause a problem? The carb seems a little lean with immediate hard throttle, but runs stronger than anything I have ever had before.

I don't remember for sure, but I think it has stock gearing.

Thanks.
John

It should be a little lean at 1000". I used to plan on 65-70 miles a tank with moderate riding. More if you take it easy and short shift.

consider one of my jetting kits, they improve fuel economy a great deal and I'm sure some happy chappie here from the USA will say so!

do you know cheeseburger's gang? all his buddies have them in colorado...someone jeff hanson or other?

he sent me this photo of him and his buddies stood there with 5 blonds... memorable customer!

It sounds like I am not getting close to expected mileage so I guess I need to check it out.

So far I don't know anyone in my circle of friends that has a berg. Plus, I did not see the photo you were referring to, Taffy.

What is the price and ordering instructions for your kit?

I noticed the fitting in the carb that the fuel line connects to seems loose, but does not appear to be leaking. Maybe it leaks while I am riding and evaporates fast enough for me not to see a problem. Is that nipple a press-fit connection?

Back to the drawing board.
