FS650E -05 increased vibrations and noise

My 650 -05 (164 hours) had a broken exhaust valve spring with a crooked valve as a result. Brought the engine to KEVA-motor (my closest Husa mechanic in southern Sweden) and their assessment was no damage to piston (a tiny scratch only) nor crank. Solution was to change all valve springs, new valve and seat, cam-chain and spark plug. Also got a new e-decomp spring.

When I got the engine back I put it back in the frame, filled oil and coolant and fired it up with the button. The e-starter worked like a charm (thanks to the new spring), both cold and hot. The valve train was significantly quieter and everything worked like a charm (silly grin every ride).
After about the 4th driving hour, on a twisting tarmac, mid revs and 5th gear, I noticed an increased vibration from the foot pegs and when I stopped and had the engine idling there was a louder, high pitch, valve train clatter that was new. There was some oil on the left side cover but I blame the weep hole (has happened before on longer rides)

Back in the garage my first thought was to adjust the valves but since the tank and radiator was off I decided to open the valve cover to check for any visible trouble. Cams look and feel fine, so does cam- and rocker bearings. The cam chain is only 4 hours old and it's ok and the tensioner has 6 clicks left. The rollers look ok with no radial play but there is some axial play on both. Are they the culprit or is there an other obvious reason for increased vibrations and clatter noise? Like big end bearings? Will check oil plug magnet today so I don't know the status there.

mains are the thing to look for. I can't believe that you could have a bent rod from a valve just tapping a piston so I'm with your bikeshop there. but is that valve moving freely in the guide?

try pulling the stator cover off and see if there is any 'wobble' in the crank. I would also consider pulling the left-cover off and checking the left main as well. that would explain the oil weep as well.

sometimes bikes have to go wrong before they go right.

Cheers Taffy,
good to get your reply. It's my first Berg but I'm used to getting my hands dirty (drove a 34 year old Land Cruiser 7000 km through South America and had a few 2-strokes YZ's so..) Still it feels good with some digital hand holding. The covers come off tomorrow for a look-see and some serious crank fondling.

The valve in question was changed with a new guide. The old valve was bent slightly and I'm not sure if it was stuck or moved freely. Do you think that even if the piston looked alright the crank and/or the rod bearings got banged up and that is showing now after 4 hours of street riding at a moderate pace (for a Berg). The noise and vibrations wasn't outrageous but noticeable different. Could just be the tappets needing adjustment but I'm too used to be driving with my ears. Always getting slightly nervous by a new noise/sound (damn that lovely Land Cruiser).

Still, your thoughts on oil weep and port side main bearing might indicate it's time to change. Is this a huge operation? Any special tools needed?

My bike had one cam follower bearing that was slightly worn. Just barely noticeable, it rocked a little bit. It ran A little rough at idle. I changed them and it smoothed right out. No jerky snatchy business anymore.
