Just though I'd report that I've consistently been getting over 50 mpg (US) from my street legal '05 FS650c. The main changes are switching to a 16 tooth front sprocket and only coming out 1/2 turn on the fuel screw. I'm running a Lineweaver needle and 160 mj/45 pilot. At first I thought I'd be too lean, but it runs very strong and stays in front of two KTM 690 sm's who ride with me. One of them is an "R" model with a full Akro & remap and I'm stock.
Put the stock needle from this bike in my FE550e and set the fuel screw 1/2 turn out too. It gets over 60 mpg with stock gearing.
