FS650c for the street?

My deal on an '05 FS650e has fallen through.

I am considering an '05 FS650c as an alternative. Nobody's going to hassle me about slicks on the street, and I think I can live with a sprocket that is two teeth larger on the rear.

I am concerned about riding it on the street without a damped rear hub. Can you advise me please?

It appears that the thermostat, which apparently was new for the 2005 FS650e, can be retro-fitted to the 2005 FS650c. Your thoughts?

I have studied the owner's manual and the parts manual. I'd like some clarification on a couple of things:

Although the pictures of the 2005 FS650c show the frame without the mounting boss for the sidestand, the parts book shows the frame as being the same part number. Does the 2005 FS650c come with the mounting boss for the sidestand? It would be kind of a bummer to have to find something to lean it up against everywhere I go.

Does the 2005 FS650c come with a 17-digit VIN number so that I can register it for street use?

Is there anything unique about the MSO for the 2005 FS650c as compared to the 2005 FS650e that would hinder registering it for street use?

It appears that I would need to round up a headlight, tail/brake light, turn signals, multi-function switch, mirror, speedometer/odometer and horn. Does the 2005 FS650e come with the wiring harnesses to plug all this stuff in, or do I need to buy wiring harnesses too?

Thanks in advance, guys. My learning curve is still pretty steep here, and I appreciate being able to draw from the depth of knowledge available here. :)

Many of your questions are ones I can´t answer except two:

Thermostat: The main reason for it is for use in cold weather. I don´t think you need it at all. Cooling fans on the other hand might do you good, especially in stop/go slow traffic.

Dampner: It gives a much more pleasant ride, and it does save your transmission. Big difference in comfort, big in longevity I believe.

Good luck.

PS
In your previous thread, you were concerned about parts availability and such. I find myself waiting for parts for a week or more sometimes, as it all comes from Austria these days. You would not be alone. But it´s worth it.

Kirk,

Even if the FSc doesn't have a cush drive it should be fine. I would check to make sure because even though the parts list shows no cush drive for the FSc you may very well be able to get a bike with one fitted. Here in the UK I have seen FScs with rear cush drive.

There is no mounting boss for the side stand on FSc frames.

You will need an additional wiring harness.

Don't worry about the thermostat.

Cheers,
Simon

you will need the euro harness, easy plug and play, the list is under the electercal section.

I want the same but a 06 FS650e, I will wait....

I own an '05 FS650C, it has no boss for side stand, and DOES NOT have a 17 digit VIN. In California I can't even get a "green sticker" to ride legally "off road". They consider it a "closed course" only machine.
