that is a 2003 and it should not have had a 53 cam in it. please tell us what the photo doesn't make clear;
53 or 55 cam?

it should have had the first year of the 5521 cam but the next year; 2004, it had the '08' which was a far better cam for a roadbike.

I wouldn't put that 53 back in it will damage your engine for no good reason.

If it is a 55 then the timing will be 5 degrees out and you can't put it right without a good deal of skill. the 55 shopuldn't go bacvk in without firther technical advice involving filing two elongated 'smiley' slots in the sprocket.

regards

Taffy

ya, what taffy said.
it seems to be a 55 cam and according to yer pics, no marks on the cam gear which would align with the top of the head.
to get it close, put the piston at exactly tdc and lay the cam in the head with the cam lobes up. using a straight edge on top of the lobes front to rear, turn the cam until the straightedge is exactly parallel with the head and mark the gear where the head surface sits.
hopefully, you haven't removed the clutch hub from the balancer idler without marking it, 'cause that's a whole different thing.

its not what I say. the question remains for third time; what position is your flywheel?

it is a very simple question.

has everyone grown a stupid hat around here all of a sudden?
