The 04's were notorious for the solder joint coming off of where the stator output wires come off the buss on the stator itself.
Down load the shop manual from the .com site if you don't already have it, and use and ohm meter to read your stator wires, it's very straight forward.
It it reads open the have a look at the stator and see where it's open at. It also explains how to check for proper operation of the reg/rect.
Do the lights still work, or do you have it in track trim?
Have you pulled the tank/seat and checked all the wiring?
I had my 04 stator rewound by UHE member SPARKS and converted my system to DC so that I could run a fan and lights etc.... and the battery would still have a good charge.
