FS650 lack of charging, voltage drops down when reving

Heya,

Any ideas what might be wrong whit my charging. i upgraded to Xenon kit, the original lighting was AC so i rewired the lightning switch for DC. But as you can guess, the DC lacked amps and the xenon only worked like 15mins at time.

After that, and some googling i figured out that the original voltage regulator could not handle all the DC load, so i bough the trailtech's 150w one, but still, the the lights aint working. i measured the charging and it was only ~11v

Now, i read few topic's, and on some of them they say that you should grab the 2 wire from the stator, connect them together and reroute them to stator 8O I think the idea behind that was that each wire has it own coil, and each coil can crank out 70w, when combined you get the 140w

But, there comes 2 wires from the stator, yellow and white, and it plugs straigh into the trail tech's voltage regulator.

So, should i combine the yellow and white, and connect them to one of the trailtech's yellows, and reroute the another yellow to ground, or is it more likely that the stator it self is busted ?

For me it would be logical that the 2 wires coiming from the stator (yellow & white) would be L & N and combining them would short cirquit the stator.

Or, since its 2 yellows on the voltagecontroller, should i combine the 2 yellows on the controller, connect them to stators yellow one and ground the the white one ?

Update, i did some testing: charging from stators yellow wire: 11v ac, white wire: 11v ac, whitte and yellow combined, nd measured against the frame: >40v ac on idle.

So i guess i connect the yellow and white to one of the voltagecontrols yellows, and ground the anotherone ?

Update

Yellow to ground = ~9v ac
White to ground = ~9v ac
White&yellow to ground = ~30v ac

So the ac voltages seem to be fine, but no matter how i connect the stator to the regulator, the voltage drops to 6v dc on the output

So far ive tried

Yellow.white to yellow.yellow on regulator
Yellow.white to yellow, stators yellow grounded
Yellow to yellow, white to yellow

What am i missing ?!

And update:


Tested the charging coil:

Yellow to white = 0,3ohm
Yellow to ground = 0,9ohm

Both are out of spec, so i gues i need new coils ?

make sure you closely examine the wires coming into the coils for bad solder joints (one of the results from dc headlight experimentation). and i believe the doubling up of the wires was an sem thing, not applicable to kokusan.

Need to check the solders next time i change the oil.

on meanwhile, had a wild idea when i was browsing the trailtech's website. I found a picture for similar regulator that i bought, where the potentiometer on the casing vas labeled "voltage" = You can adjust the output voltage by turning the potentiometer ?

Witch means i should get the DC charging voltage from 11.7v -> 13.8v just by turning the potentiometer ?

Ok, so i checked the stators soldering, and they were fine.

Tho, i did some more testing today.

If the bike is runing on idle, the voltage climbs slowly all the way to ~14volts, when it reaches the 14v, and you turn on consumer, it instantly drops down to ~11,7v and after turning off the consumer, it starts to slowly climb back up.

The interesting part, if you rev'it, the voltage drops ~5-7v and when it slows down back to idle, the voltage goes up again. Same thing whit the trailtech voltage control, and the original one.

Yes, they are out of spec, therefore no matter what you do it won't work.

I had mine rewound by UHE member SPARKS. He set it up for straight DC output, and I used the the same TT universal reg/rectifier you have. It is well worth the money, and you will never have an issue with using all your accessories at the same time.

The stock stator puts out 95W AC, and 25W DC. The regulator regulates the AC voltage down to 13VAC for lighting, and the rectifier puts out 25W VDC for battery charging.

SPARKS will rewind your stator to put out 120W VDC.

And Ned was right about combining the two output wires from the stator, this applied only to SEM ignitions.
