Anyone ride both yet ? I sold the 650 in 08 & want a new 570 and was wondering will I still be impressed with a 570 ? 80cc is a lot to loose . I think my 650 dynoed @ 67 hp .

Thanks for any input , Im gonna buy one anyway just curious .

The passing comparisons I have seen say that the 570 doesn't have quite the grunt, especially on the top end, that the 650 does, but that it is easier to ride and handles better.

The 570 has plenty of power for most purposes, especially off-road. I rode an Aprilia RXV 550 once and it had noticeably more power all over the place - but then it was rated at 70 HP v. 52 HP for the 570 - except for the pavement I would prefer the 570.

I took a donor seat and cut a large hole in it to flow more air into the intake and it made a difference. It didn't make it into a 650, but it was noticeable. There are other things you can do - exhaust, EFI, etc. to get more power if you really need it.

Good post by Gazza here with his view and he should know he races/raced both:

I have only ever been overtaken by a ol school 650 and they sound unreal on full song sliding :D I have never ridden one.

Hey Codemonkey, my mate had an Aprilla RXV450 and it was a weapon. No way I could have rode it up knarly hills it was either on or off on the throttle. Fun to ride on the flat dirt roads. It was the biggest pile of crap of a bike I had ever seen. Always breaking down and it was new, ended up needing an engine rebuild. He sold it and went with a Husqvarna 450 and is now happy.
Davo.

No comparison in terms of grunt, the 650 is king ! The 570 ergos and handling are easier to live with ( if sprung and valved to your weight and abillity) IMHO. I remember the first ride with my mate on his 650 when I had my YZ450F, in an open section I though I was doing well untill the big girl hit 6th and left me weeping in a world of pain covered with dirt and stones, that experience was the catalyst for my "berg migration" I jetted my 08 550 up with the help of Taffy and could give him curry but in terms of sheer balls the 650 smokes all comers.

Dammit I was hoping you were going to say a more positive thought of the 570 . I guess with some work it will be acceptable . The power to weight is what Im looking for most . The 690 ktm is just too heavy to be fun or is it ??

The RXV I rode had a Rekluse fitted and I rode it up a small trail hill I like to practice on - it wasn't too bad but the owner had the rear knobby inflated too high so the rear tire was losing traction a lot. I never really opened it up - someone else's expensive bike that I rode for ten minutes - but I could tell it had more power than my bike.

The newer models have a map switch - two positions IIRC - one for soft, one for fast. If Aprilia ever gets the bugs out and starts making them again it would be an interesting dual sport, but I like my bike.

You don't say why you need the power. IMO the 570 has more power than most people need except for SM or rallye or open desert racers and even then there are some easy tweaks that allow you to get more power yet.

*duh* *smacks head*

I didn't see the 'fs' - sorry.

Well, like I said, there are things you can do - especially opening up the intake and the exhaust, along with some EFI work. I think there is a 610 big bore kit too.

For tight SM tracks I think the 570 would out handle the 650, but for the open street the 650 might have enough top end to make a difference.

Thanks for the input , I think that I will put a exhaust & map regear for sure . I was also thinking about putting the new pilot pure tires , they are almost 2&1\2 lbs lighter than most tires . since the bike already runs tubeless rims I cant see buying a trick set of wheels . makes me think less of the ktm , sure you can trick it out but no matter what its still heavy !

If u haven't bought the 570 already, I'd highly recommend the 650, they absolutely rock the foundations of all other SM's

yeah I had a 07 fs650e & sold it , big mistake !!!

I know how you feel, exactly ...

Btw, wher`s your Ducati? Black 1098 IIRC ...

Cheers M8, Goran

stay away from the ktm 690 i have two pals that own them they both have lots of problems with the efi, one of my buddies is suing ktm to take it back. the dealer has been unable to fix the bike going on 4 months now! he is so pissed

I've got a smc690 (2010) too at the moment...can't wait to trade it in for an other bike, just not sure which one...

KTM 690 sucks BIG TIME

-can't start the bike without it stalling at least once...
-the tranny is a 10 speed, one extra 'not engaging' gear between the gears...

yupz, ready to race out of my garage...back to the dealer

btw: it has been to the dealer and importer, you can NOT fix the EFI so that it works...it's ****
