hi everybody,
i m a new owner of 04' berg
the first owner toked of the battery and the starter and told me that the bike won't start with it..
i 'v been asking people how to solve this problem and everybody said that all the modes' l before 2005 have problem whit starters even the dealer told me so..

i was wondering if any of u guys could have more info..

hello from croatia

The 04 was a much better starter than an 01-03 model. In 05 they came out with a larger starter motor and bracket for the 550 and 650 models.

the 04 models came with a starter torque limiter that broke free well before it was supposed to and thus would slip when the oil was anything but hot. the solution is to take it out and shim it like many posts here will describe (also in the owners doc). or just kick it when cold.

Yep, I sometimes get the issue Ned mentions, breaks free to a high pitch starter motor squeel shortly after pressing the button.

I usually prop the bike & use a combination of starter/kick/move the piston a little, & usually get him going within a few minutes.

Let us know how you get on?

thank u guys now my mind is much brighter javascript:emoticon(':bounce:')

i 'm not shore that my starter is one of the better ones
because the date manufactured on the bike is 10 '03, but i bought it for a 2004...

the first owner told me that since the bike was new it never started properly so he toked it down because he drived supermoto championship's and every weight that can be of the bike better be doing so

so the last thing im asking...
since the battery, and everything involved with the electric starter is of the bike and even if i put it back it wont be able to start well as everybody say... what is the right thing to do...

on or leave it without elektrostart
that is the question :.)

it depends on how much work you want to do. your bike is an 04 model and when all is right, a good estarter.

If it have a 2-peace engine cover on the clutch-side, a statorcover without a round window or a Kheinin carb then its a true 04, and it should be pretty easy to have it working. With sem ign and dellorto carb= more work. Look around and search the forum.
there is many threads with that subject.

i think thecost of putting everything bck on the bike is just too much!
i have a full wiring harness here, battery box, HTcables, ignition barrel etc etc. i also have the freewheel and the sprague although manxberg might get back to me and want the freeheel. (freewheel = starter clutch in parts book).

regards
