Front suspension "clonk"

Hi all, new berg rider coming from a Honda blackbird and I must say its much more fun getting dirty than road riding. Anyway I have noticed that when I compress the front suspension when stationary I get a pronounced clonk from the fork area. I don't think It's the head bearing as i cant feel ant movement when it clonks. hopefully someone has suffered and cured this problem. It's a 2005 FE450 with 750kms
