No different to replacing seals in any otehr fork. OTTMH Remove fork, may pay to loosen cap before undoing bottom triple clamp. Remove cap, emvoe spacer, clip and spring. Keep track of washers on top and bottom of spring. Drain oil. Remove circlip retaining seal, use a rattle gun to remove bottom bolt retaining cartridge and rip apart. Easy.

Use a plastic bag or cling wrap over tube when installing new seal to protect lip.

steve, are your instructions for the conventional forks on a berg

50mm WP Extremes

Works for the 50 mm extremes on my 98 fe501. There is probably a service manual in the downloads. If not, I guess I could scan mine and get it loaded.

The challenge is the bolt in the bottom. I purchased and electric rattle gun as there was no way of holding the cartridge form the top. If you still have trouble, but the spring back in and get someone to sit on the fork while undoing bolt. Locally you should have access to a workshop that has an air powered one. A few seconds with a 10mm socket. I'd also recommend genuine WP seals and have a good look at the inner tube for damage. An oil stone and or some fine emery paper can tidy up nicks OK.

They are basically a USD fork right way up and come apart no problem.

cool thanks i feel a little better about doing it myself than ive done the top dust seals before just never the inside ones. how much oil you put in there

I run 120 mm form the top, fully compressed with no spring, 2.5w in the compresssion leg and 5 w in the rebound

fully compressed with no spring.......what?

is that with the cap off you just fill it up with oil until 120mm from the top of the fork?

Correct. Get a syringe from your local pharmacist and a bit of tube to suit. I zip tie it to a bit of wire to straighten it out and stiffen it up and have a zip tie at the 120 mm mark. Overfill and then suck out to level. You can slide the zip tie up and down for different needs. Less than 120 mm might be asking for trouble though.

the essence of this can be found in the doc under 'forks'.

a picture is worth a thousand words...

the manual will also tell you how to do it.
