Well i'de like to say hi,I'm new to this site.Have to say I think I've been bitten by the SM bug.I'ts all think about now.Right now my ride is a 2001 zx9r,but I'm in the market for an SM.Well really I want both worlds, a trail riding bike and the occasional street ride.I found a guy selling a 2003 Fe400e.My question is would it be an O.K street bike cause i know the higher displacement bikes would be a better choice for the street, but i would be using it more off road.I don't want a strickly street SM bike.thanx for any help you guys can be.

Hi. I ride a 600 off road and don't have a problem. I checked the weight of the bike vefore I bought it and it was a similar weight to other bikes. I see a lot of comments about smaller cc's and I think it is not as big an issue (and I do some fairly tight riding) especially when you open the throttle on the 600 and leave the 450's in your dust :)

so would the 2003 Fe400e be an alright streetbike?anbody else.I found a 2004 Ktm 625,but I like the idea that my insurance would be at the 399cc rate very cheap for me to have it on the road and my 4 door cager insured aswell.

Besides the wheel swap, from SM to dirt, you'd also have to make a choice regarding the fork tuning and the front brake. Supermoto requires some beefy brakes if you want to go fast, and these brakes would get you into trouble on the dirt. The stock Brembo brakes would get you into trouble on road (unless you don't race).

If you currently ride a zx9r, the 400 may frustate you on the road.

Bottom line: if you buy that Fe 400e, you may want to ride dirt only with it and later get a SM Husaberg if you really like the brand.

I ride my '03 FE400 on the street about 80/20. A group of us dual sport every Sunday when it's warm. I'll put about 60 road miles on the bike on a typical Sunday ride. However, I ride with dirt tires and not SM tires so I can't give an opinion on the SM capabilities.

I would be upgrading the brakes with the SM street tires and just do the swap for the off road setup.I'm most likely getting rid of zx9r,you can never use crotch rockets to their full potential on the street so a motard would be great for jont in town and good trail ride.I'm going to take baby steps in converting my SM.
