frame crack
Pre-2001 bergs (electric start) are known for hairline cracks around the front engine mounts and less often the rear subframe up at the backbone. There are only 2 Mounts on the electric start models. I had cracks develop on both areas of my 2000 FX600E. My 2000 FC501 never developed any cracks. Just take the frame to an experienced welder and weld over the cracks. My 600 front engine mount was done 2x. It hasn't cracked since. The rearshock mounts and subframe was beefed up with gussets (standard on 2003 and newer models) and have not been a problem since. Both Bergs have seen much "Airtime" at the MX Practice tracks--some Bergs don't ever see the cracks--they are ridden less Hard.
