Fork/Shock Start Point?

My 02 FE501E has WP 4860 forks and a 5018 shock. I know the factory settings from the owners manual and that "+" means increase the effect and "-" means decrease the effect. But the manual states the factory settings as so many clicks "out".

But "out" from which side, left as fully closed counterclockwise, or right as fully closed clockwise? I am willing to get off my arse and test/adjust but I would like to know I'm doing it from the factory "baseline".

Sticky's guide will help sort out the setup once a get to understand how to set it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Otherwise I could be on the other side of the setting curve when I think I'm not.

"out" as in not "in"

without going out to the shed to the check, turning the clickers clockwise winds them in. then its just a case of backing them out, anti-clockwise, the appropriate number of clicks.

Cypher,

Thanks for the tip, and no need to visit the shed. Your solution fits a Man Law here in the USA that turning a standard screw "out" is to the left, or counterclockwise. I should have known......many thanks.

just to be clear. wind all screws in to the cosed or slowest setting and then turn ACW the correct amount of clicks to get to the setting you have read.
