I need recommendations for fork seals for my '99 FE501. I thought I saw a discussion a while back concerning some type of blue seal that might be superior to the OEM.

Thanks
Manan

which forks do you have? the blue seals are the german made OEM seals that are no longer available.

The blue seals aren't that great any way.Get Synergy seals
or match your seals to Kawasaki seals.I am also going to
put seal savers on mine also.

KYB 48mm seals will fit 03 and up forks. I tried to put them my 01 forks and they wont fit. i pounded and pounded and no dice. in 03 they enlarged the opening in the outer fork leg slightly. the 50mm extreme forks your pretty much limited.

couple thousandths maybe? I personally wouldnt bother because I like the WP seals cause they can be cleaned out and re used. the only reason i was trying the KYB seals is I was at MX-Tech and they ran out of WP seals and i was leaving the next day and wanted to take my stuff with me. another thing to consider if you were to machine the forks is the bushing, the early style were a bit different size, to tell which you have just look at the color. early ones were orange.

Yeah sounds like too much work.
I also have an industrial seal catalog,
I might try some of those if the price is right.

Hi

I was just wondering what the average life of fork seals is? I bought a new '03 FE400 around 6 months ago, since then I've only put 20 hrs on it trail riding in the UK. Both seals seemed to start leaking while the bike was parked up in my shed. My dealer says "no warranty on seals", have I been unlucky or is this the normal life of the seals?

Thanks
Phil

call K-tech up, their seals last for over a year of riding every weekend.

"southern UK?" -don't you think you're giving a bit too much away? we might be around next week for your bike!

Thanks for the tip, I'll try K-Tech next time.
When you compare Southern UK to the posting above mine (from USA) it looks like I am giving a lot away.

Phil.

I have done over 5000kms of trail in 14 months & have only just blown the left hand side fork seal. I have been using seal savers since the first ride though.
