ive got a 98 husaberg fc400. when it is strapped down in the truck the forks will seep. only when strapped. they are now low on oil. how/where do you refill? also if empty how much does each hold?

pics of oil fill location would be great

TIA

by the sound of it the forks could do with a bit of a service. the seal need a clean if not replacing.

you have to take the cap on the top of each fork off to put oil in then measure the gap between the top of the oil and the top of the fork with the fork completely compressed and the spring out.

for 1998 forks i dont know what oil or what air gap they should be as i never had any, but some one here will.

but as you can seen its not as simple as bunging some oil in. and the final danger is if its not done, in extreme circs, the fork seals will let go and cover your front brake in oil at the most inopertune time.

welcome mate

be nice if you put your bike in your signature as well if ya could.

as cypher says BUT when you strap it down you may find a bleed screw in the top of the forks. also, a lot of people put a klu klux klan cross under the front mudguard and resting on the top of the front tyre. you pull the bike down with use of the straps onto this cross and then the forks don't 'itch' or irritate' on your journey. at this point undo the bleed screws and listen to the air hissing out.

prolly a good time to pull them off and have a go at proper fork service. its not that hard.
go to www.husaberg.se and go to service, then downloads, then download the 97 owners manual and the parts manual from 98. the info there will give you an idea of what to do. try and find a wp extreme (50mm) manual on the net, thats what came with the bikes. the owners manual doesn't give you much. about the only thing thats not evident in a teardown for seal replacement is (1) to loosen the caps while still tight in the clamps,(2) the cap is connected to the damper tube inside and needs to be removed from it, (3) the fork tube internals retaining screw at the bottom needs to be loosened before you loosen the caps all the way (works great with air impact wrench). after a good cleaning and seal replacement, with the fork tube reinstalled, (push the tube in all the way a few times before retightening the screw)and with the tube in, add enough 5w fork oil (or if you're cheap use type f auto trans fluid) to bring the oil level to about 6" (approx 150 mm) from the top (more air space, softer, less= stiffer) each leg takes about 750 cc of oil. bla bla bla

whilst lookin around, found that there is a lin the wp extreme manual in our vewry own download section under docs and manuals.

didnt try the link but a start if youstill need the fork manual
