Fork foot threads stripped

I bought a 2005 FE550e. When washing the bike i noticed that the threads in the fork foot that holds the fork guards have been stripped. Someone has obviously over tightened them. What can I do to remedy this ? I thought about using JB Auto Weld. Any other suggestion or magic fixes ?

you could re-thread them the next size up and then cut the bolts to the perfect length so that as they tighten up on the plastic they reach the bottom of the hole? you need what is known as a 'bottoming tap' to get the threads right into the bottom.

Or.. you can remove the foot and get a helicoil in the hole. Same screws and stronger after that. That is of course if you have the time to strip the fork down.

Thanks for the replys. I've decided to repair it with the helicoil. Ordered a M6x1 kit off Ebay just have to wait for it to be delivered. After reading about the helicoil repair on the web I thought it would be a stronger fix. Stainless steel threads rather than the alloy, should last a while.
