Guys,
Can someone help me out here ,I need to get the upper and lower fork tubes apart on my 03 501, have got all other parts out of the fork assembly and can't see any hidden circlips etc. - I've tried using the lower fork tube as a slide hammer as such while keeping the upper tube in softjaws but it doesn't want to move and I really don't want to give it to much stick just yet.
Thanks..

Are they WP forks? Have you removed the circlip from under the dust seal? Have you removed the fork cap, spring and cartridge rod? The base valve? I would guess you have already stuffed your bushes by slide hammering. Once all the other parts are out try pouring some boiling water over the area of the seal and bushes before slide hammering. Myself I remove the seals hydraulically first and then the bushes often just fall out without any damage. You should not need to put the forks in a vice, just a quick movement holding the two ends should do it once heated. If the teflon has been damaged on your bushes they will need replacing.

Thanks Danger,
yeah the circlip is out, and all I can see that's left in there is the seal ,obviuosly the bushes are behind it, I had a look through the Doc and the WP manuals in there and it does say that I think it was 2005 onward that you should heat the upper tube lightly, Maybe the boiling water technique is a safer one to try first up.Thanks. Hey - just on top of the seal there is a ring of metal with a gap in it- it doesn't go full circle, but it would need to be expanded if it were a circlip (external circlip ) but there is no provision for it to be opened up as it is inside the tube , and has no holes for circlip pliers etc.to allow it to be pulled in ( internal circlip) I'm sure it's part of the upper tube -just checking ?

That ring is the circlip- put a small screwdriver behind the angle cut end and lever on the screwdriver to remove the circlip.............
