Fork Caps

I went with the heaviest rear spring ( ) and found the preload on my forks now to be a bit on the light side, I'm 2 off for compression now......I use plastic wire straps as gauges and have found I'm using the last 3/4's of the travel...... soooo I was lookin at the KTM adjustable fork caps... has anyone tried this yet ???....its tempting because it gives me greater adjustment because I ride on all different type of tracks including clay......What are you guys at for front sag ??..... I run 82 mm at the rear with 25 mm of unladen sag which works perfect....of coarse you change one end the other gets affected
or I quite being lazy and just replace my front springs.....

the adjustable fork caps works great now I am not a SM guy here is my
suggestion once you have establish you really don't need to adjust preload if think that you can increase spring rate by increasing preload
it does not increase spring rate if you are bottoming the fork you can increase oil level in the fork that will give you greater progression I don't
know if you have a problem with fork or question about tuning
so long

Viking I think they are a Tad too light, I get your point though about the rates etc....making me think harder about the decision....I'll try the oil idea first... Thank You !

Thank you Taffy, those caps over here list for $ 175.00 8O

Thanks Joe !! :D

Brian,

I forgot to mention that fork caps with preload-adjusters came stock on my 00 501.

You might check to see if the KTM part number I gave you (I searched the KTM site for preload-adjusters) will allow you to make the dampening adjustments you need on your forks. I don't know what year your 550 is, but you probably have both high and low speed compression and rebound dampening adjustment on you bike.

Joe

2003, and yes I do.....I'll do the oil first but after this weekend...I hate experimenting just before a race  then the springs and I think I''l still do the caps

Taffy
