flywheel weak? stronger spark?

need sparks onto this one!

what and when defines the demise of the flywheel? photos of shagged ones are required here - the more gruesome the better!

secondly. having fitted sparks supa-dupa srewound stator what is the strength of the spark? does it start earlier in the revs than OEM which i think DL quoted as 400 revs to kick and 400 revs is when the spark starts!

i just want to know that we're getting the best spark on the old SEM system (or indeed if kokusan can be improved -s ay so!) so bundy etc etc what made a difference?

You can have a flywheel looking a rough as rats but as long as the magnetism is good then it will perform as good as a new one.
The only way to test the magnetic strength of the magnets is with a gouce meter of which I don't have but modern day materials that make up magnets are far superior than the old days and loss of magnetism is quiet rare.
The to main reasons magnets will loose there magnetism, one, if dropped or struck with heavy object and second arc welding this will completely demagnetise a flywheel.

Yes my rewound SEM stators do spark up earlier than the OEM about 250 to 300 as opposed to 400 for the originals, but I don't want to give to much away to the enemy if you know what I mean, but it's all in the windings but that's pretty obvious.

Regarding improving the Kokusan I don't really know yet, I have rewound my own with a slightly higher output but I never rode the bike with the original stator.
DCR's are donating to me a Kokusan wiring loom so it will be easy to hook up the multi plug.
The one I ran up last week I used a Gas Gas loom which came in with a customers ignition, the Gas Gas uses the same system near as dam it.
North Country is sending me a TPS to do the test that Neil or Simon were asking about, so I should have some answers in a week or so.
Hope this has answered some of your questions Taffy.

RE: Re: flywheel weak? stronger spark?

i'm on about the actual strength of the spark. is it brilliant or adequete? i'm not on about your stator but perhaps even from the coil onwards?

some americans will have heard of a bike from 30 years ago called "the california hot rod" which was a duati 750SS fully tuned and beating all the jap gear at the time. they triied many different coils in testing and the cheapest came top and was from a store called walmart.

i use this as an example coz i'm talking about the end spark?

Ah you mean the spark duration, this will have big out come to the performance of the engine, the duration means how long the spark is there.
Going back to your old jobs name sake Sherco when they first brought out there 4t motor it was fitted with pidderly small HT coil probably OK for a 50 cc Derbi but not a 320cc four stroke.
On one of my tests with the Sherco I was sent was to change the HT coil, the one I used had a longer spark duration this gives better combution and more power.
With good spark duration you are looking at around 190 200 milli seconds where as the original Sherco coil was around 120.
But unfortunatly the SEM coil is all in one with the CDI, I have tried to seperate the coil from the cdi but it can't be done not by me anyway, but if it could it would be interestingto try different HT coils.
