flywheel marks wrong again!

working on an '02 650FE and the flywheel marks are wrong by exactly the amout all the others were.

i have yet to see a 650 without them being wrong.

to recap:
get the marks at the top of the flywheel. you have a left and a right mark and they are 5mm apart. you need a third line the same distance that these are apart on their right as you look.

so:

MARK. 5MM. MARK. NOW 5MM TO NEW MARK.

all equadistant. some everytime.

Hey Taffy
Yeah mine too. TDC is where the imaginary third line to the right is.
Well, it's not imaginary on mine anymore cause I made a new 1 with a hacksaw but it is the same distance.
Maybe they went left instead of right when they were marking them?????

ignition timing out by 10 degrees.

do me a favour. do a search for' Lbrown' and you'll get a thread he started about hard starting. he had gone to three motorcycle dealers and a car garage, nobody could make it run right. it took me 20 minutes if i recall to get it sorted.

Couldn't find the LBrown thread. Anything real interesting?
I just move the stator as far cw as it will go. Not enough adjustment in the slots to make it line up @ exact TDC anyway.

The thread was actually started by "brownl". In any event here is the link -
TDC thread

My timing marks were off on my '03 FE400 as well. Maybe Coastie is on to something. The factory had a bout with dyslexia when they were marking flywheels!

Considering the ignition you are all talking about is the infamous SEM, are you at all surprised with this finding?

Hi Sutto
Yeah good call.
You would've come across this a bit wouldn't you??
Coops.
