Float Level

My floats remain in the carb bowl upon dismantling.

When adjusting the float fork (to get them parallel to the upturned edge etc), do I hold the bit of the fork that presses on the valve then bend the forks? :?: My carb's still flooding - no hope of getting it started like that :( .

I've ordered a new float valve in case that's worn etc

Assistance gratefully appreciated

It is unlikely that your float is that far out of adjustment.

When my carb was flooding, it was caused by the tiniest piece of debri. I couldn't even see the debri since it was so small. I used a half a can of carb cleaner blowing through from both directions to clear the float valve seat area. That solved the flooding issue.

Be very careful with that o-ring that seals the bowl, mine wasn't seated perfectly and kept leaking.

But to answer your question directly, yes your described method will work.
Remember to adjust a mm at a time.
A little adjustment makes a large change in float height.

remove the assembly and re-fit the pivot pin on the bench, hold both arms still and somehow bend the tongue in the middle that hooks onto the fuel valve. if i remember rightly, i used to lay it on a flat table but with a flat-bladed screw driver under the centre section.

you really can't afford for it all to bend and twist so your efforts must be isolated to just that area.

Thanks for the info :D

I noticed that my float fork has been bent around by the prev owner/agent :?: I'm waiting for a new one and valve. I'll compare the 'old' and 'new' and let you know what I find
