Last weekend berg and I made the trip to an MX track it was a first for both of us, my background as a rider is mostly in the woods and technical stuff sith a few good ISOLATED jumps here and there along with the occasional hillclimbs, where my berg does quite well, in spite of the fact that the stock suspension too soft for me. Well I was soon to find out that MX is a different animal in itself.
First go around the track I decided that these tracks are designed to get an unsuspecting rider (read ME) hurt, second go around I was getting a little more confident and I hit and cleared a couple of really sweet 25-30ft. tabletops this isn't too bad I'm thinking so I pick up the pace, hit a spall double, lo-and-behold that darn track took a turn that I didn't remember directly after those jumps.... darn, I looked around, nobody saw me so I picked myself and my bike back up I so went at it again, I couldn't get the hang of those darn rythym sections, they are harder than they look. Fast forward to my fifth lap, I'm ready to try a big double, piece of cake, Man what a rush!!! across the track there is another double the only one I hadn't attempted yet, I am pumped I can do this I am thinking, double came directly after one of those pesky rythym sections (would you call them whoops if they are 4ft tall and spaced one right after the other?) and to top it off it is on a downhill slope I hit it with the throttle pinned in second (which is pretty fast with my 15-48 gearing) and just came up a little short on the double, my rear tire hit right on the midle of it and bottomed... NOT GOOD! So my bike just started bouncing down the slope, and off the track AGAIN I look up and see a straw bail Uh-oh The bail exploded, I got tossed down into some mud landing on my left hip, my bike in a puddle.... I picked myself up surveyed the damage ( which was only a broken radiator guard tab and guard holder shaft, and decided to head back home. I think I will do that suspension work before I go back, it was fun though, and we both survived mostly....
Till next time
