Hi guys this is to do with oil. I just did my first oil and Filter change on my own. Drained oil out as per Husaberg video. I did notice tiny metal flakes not many a few really fine ones mainly on the plastic and metal mesh filter (Berg is FE400 2002 with under 1500km on it). All other oil and filter changes had been done by Bike Shop. Are the small flakes normal in a new bike? The same plastic and meta mesh filter inside the bottom near plug it has a large hole in one end and a small hole in the other, I cleaned it then I installed the large hole end into the engine casing part that holds it in is that ok and the small end is near where i put the sump plug in is this ok and why the diff size at each end?? Lastly installed new oil filter then filled with 1050ml of motorex. Should i put more oil in than this?? Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Hello.. just want to say that there will always be some metal particals when u drain the oil, comes from the tranny, but use a magnetic bar to get it all out..

Yep, a few particles are normal.
I never understood the 2 different size holes in the mesh filter either but putting the smaller hole at the drain plug end is how I install it.
With the bike on a flat surface and standing upright, the oil should cover 1/3 of the sight glass. I usually have mine between 1/3 and 1/2.

Ok so it is normal to have a few when would you start to worry that you may have a problem. Can some one please help?

My bike had some particles from new with less and less appearing over the first 1000km, then I would sometimes get 3 or 4 particles.
After an engine rebuild, the same occurred. First oil change a lot of particles then fewer and fewer over the next 1000km.
Now I check the oil and screen for particles after every oil change, the amount of particles varies but not more than 4-6 easily visible aluminum particles.
In the past couple of weeks I changed the intake valves and while apart I found the tip of the cam chain tensioner showing obvious signs of wear and in my case it would account for the particles I have found.

As per your PM:
Are your findings magnetic? If not and said particles appear more as flakes than slivers you should have no real concern.
Non ferrous slivers are often indicative of a loose cam chain whereas fine ferrous material often is the result of normal gearbox wear and tear.
large pieces and or / volumes of ferrous material is indeed a sign for concern.
