first oil change not till 500 miles?

pardon me I didn't receive my owners manual and I have not downloaded anything, but the husaberg check list that came with the bike says do not change the running in oil installed at the factory till 500-600 miles.

What is up with that? That is the opposite of Husqvarna, that first oil wants to be changed at 3 hours to get the metal splinters out. Husqvarna calls it running in too, but it's a break in for a husky.

so I should wait till 500 miles to do my first oil change on my Fe450e?

I'd change the oil right now, Bob, especially being a new bike. I usually try not to run the same oil for over 200 miles in the Berg anyway.

yeah I would normally, but the Husaberg checklist uses an exclamation point to make the point. It's the first line on the checklist....says: "do not drain the running in oil filled at the factory! First oil change at 500-600 Miles (observe maintenance check sheet)"

Now if you a big as mee maybe we could change it at 400 miles? I swear this pic from today is an optical illusion. That is my new FE120e mini bike. :)

too big for my Jedi Berg

I change my oil every ride when using non synthetic and every other with a full synthetic. Just my 2 cents.

bigbob,

The picture of you on your Jedi berg is too funny, you are a big guy to make that bike look soooo small! Have not heard about the oil changing regiment on the new '06 bikes being as you stated so I can't help you out there.... seems kind of odd to me though. I can't see why changing the oil sooner would make a difference unless there was a special chemical blend that they add to the factory oil to help seat rings or something along that line. Maybe a molecular coating or something, couldn't say for sure. Hope someone comes along to help clarify or if you find out some information please post it up for the masses.

Regards,

i would do as the factory says. there is a reason for it. they want the engine to wear in initially and this is the best way. i've heard of this before!

I would do as the check list and Taffy state. This oil is probably mineral based and containing Moly Disulfide and very low detergents. It may even have a dye in it for warranty issues. If you change it early it could develop an oil burning condition. Let us know what you do.

Hope this helps,

Volvonut

don't have my owners manual yet didnt come with bike, only have the check list, cant seem to down load manuals successfully to see what they say about it, unclear so I will do as the check lists says, 500 miles.

thanks

edit got owners manual downloaded and printing it. will report back

peroidic maintenance schedule on page 24 of the english version owner's manual says change oil and filters after 3 hours of operation.

Good no more uncertainty, I'll change the oil tonight, I got more like 5 hours on it allready. Why the official Husaberg initial bike out of crate setup checklist says 500 miles is beyond me. Jeez and I thought only the Italians had conflicting instructions.

Yeah, bigbob, husaberg hours are like dog years. I've always changed mine every few hours. It was pretty cheap 'till I started running synthetic. Good luck. corey :D

Taffy has a point...there might be magic juice in the oil that helps break her in.....also If in doubt change the oil.... I run 15/50 full synthetic (Motrex) Why ??? cus its really forkin exspensive... lol lol

changed oil, digital display has 8.7 hours. oil looked fine. screen was clear. Magnet was full of metal splinters. Took exactly 1 liter. used the semi synthetic.

if screen was covered on fine metal debri, I guess use some carb cleaner and a rag to clean it.

Oil change was ok not super easy with side drain bolt and ofcourse my skid plate. made some what of a mess. getting a good angle on the screen cover bolt was tough with brake pedal there in the way, but used my fingers to start it and then ok. I will get the system down each time.

ok oil change 1 down. next thing will be valve check at 12 hours.

are you going to explain the minutae of everything you do?

it's not exactly avid reading is it?

"timmy the train's 9-hour epic on how to make a cup of tea" follows shortly 8O 8O

naw, I was just closing out this post which was only here to clarify the confusion between the setup checklist saying 500 miles and the owners manual saying 3 hours and another person telling me wait on oil change #1 - that being the set up mechanic.

my last sentance saying the 1st oil change task is done and I now look forward to valve check #1 was just my polite way of saying I'm now on my way down the yellow brick road with this bike and SEE YA.

I do get enthusiastic about dirt bikes and gear too. I like to clean my Tech 8s with soap and water, even some simple green to get the grime off, then I use saddle soap to soften and preserve the leather, finally I use a toothbrush to clean in the crevices, but I'll save that post for Thumpertalk.

oh yeah one last thing while we're on the subject. Another Husaberg rider I ran into this weekend, he had an 05 FE450e, said that enduro engineering or moose or someone has an aftermarket oil drain extender pipe with threads that I can lean my bike to the left remove the oil drain plug and screw this oil drain extender pipe in, then lean the bike back and now my oil runs thru the pipe and beyond my skid plate thereby avoiding a mess or the need to remove my skid plate each oil change. Anyone have a link to that thing? if you do please PM me with it, so that these little tiny electrons don't get too crowded here in hyperspace flooding the public viewing world with minutia. We all have more important things to do.

Thank you

Hey bob, I look forward to your posts. Just don't need to tell me what you had for lunch.
Keep them coming.
