Hello considering purchasing a used 96 501E Husaberg for $1300. Could anyone with experience with this model give me some feedback on performance and reliability. I would like to own one of these bikes but don't ride enough to justify that new $$$ ouch. Thanks for any advice guys,Rusty. :?:

Got '98 model FE600E & think its tops. I think most uf us with the older bikes will agree. Going on what's been posted the reliability of pre 2001 is generally better than later ones, however chances are an older bike will have done much more work - use your judgement on how much work your prospective bike has done. Most expensive failure is likely to be a stator failure although there has been the odd self destruct to varying degrees.

96 501

The bike I have is a 96 501.They run and pull good.I would have a qualified mech. who works and services them to check it over first.Read up on all the things you need to know, servicing, preventive maintance after that if everything checks out then go for it.Sounds like a good deal. You have to stay on top of things with these bikes. In other words it takes comintment.Good luck

Hi there,

last year I rode an old 96 engine in my 2000 model for one season.
No problems with that. In fact you´ve got no oil pump and no real oil filter in that engine, but by doing all services orderly you will get much fun with this bike. Stock you have got a nice Öhlins rear suspension which works very, very good. Here in Germany the old Husabergs are not very spreaded and popular (anyway - it´s a Husaberg), not least because of the old style/design.
But I would say you can get a reliable bike for not too much money.
I wouldn´t say an older model is more reliable than a new one. Some models had their problems, I don´t want to deny that, but you must know where the weak points are, or better: you must know where to attach importance on.

Notice: You have to put an eye on the oil level and check the play of the valves regular. Also change the oil often.

have fun,
greetings from Germany
