Finding TDC with a Rekluse

I thought I'd share a little mod I did to the ignition cover which makes it real simple to find TDC for checking valves. And with a Rekluse you can't turn the crank over with the rear wheel, and it's easy to damage the ignition cover gasket if you remove it to turn it directly. Most Japanese bikes already come this way, I wish KTM and Husaberg would do this at the factory and save us the trouble.

Here it is, it's pretty simple. The black is just paint, this cover was given to me and needed a little tlc and the paint was an effort to help, but it's tough to make anything stick there that will withstand the boots. If you have a mill or lathe you can probably do it yourself, but I had a local machine shop do the work. Cost me $40. Check it out:

The cap comes off in about 3 seconds with a screwdriver.

Now just use a 19mm socket to turn the crank to position TDC - works great.

This is pretty cool!

Thanks. I just did my first valve clearance check with this setup and it was just way too easy. And after 70+ hours, all the valves are still in the middle of their respective specs. I don't think they've moved a bit.

mmm! you need to give it a bloody good thrashing then! :D :D :D
