Hi All,

following the apparent demise of my OEM computer, I am wondering if anyone who has used or is using a Trailtech Vapour can attest to its usibility, durability and whether or not it fits up (bolt up and plugs in) without requiring any substantial adaption.

Cheers!

i am very impressed with my vapor , takes time and patience to install . i am husabergless at the moment so i cant say anything about the install side . the tacho is a good idea and the temp gauge , shows maximum revs in digital form . plus other benefits .

it is very accurate compared to the oem unit , used in the pouring rain with no probs , the value for money is very good .

i am not related to trail tech in any way , shape or form !

I fitted one to the wife's KLX250/300. It has a couple of quirks. The setting for the tacho, ie sparks per crank revolution seems to change of its own accord occasionaly. It also means that the shift light and red line light are wrong when it does. The other issue was that I had to lengthen the cable for the coolant temp sensor as it was too short as supplied. Although it checks out with a multi meter the temp gauge only ever shows ambient air temp. Dunno whether this was a result of my cable lengthening or a fault. She copes. I also fitted the 'dash' as she likes a neutral indicator light. I've tried to convince her it is not needed.......but we do have to make compromises sometimes in a relationship

Otherwise it all works fine. What did surprise me was that combined with a change to a lighter aftermarket headlight I could feel a difference in the steering. I knew that in theory it should be true, but didn't expect to notice anything just putting around. There was about 1kg less mass up top after it was finished. Bergs come standard this way though.

Hi fellow Husaberg fans!, I am a bit of an expert with the Trailtech Vapour, having had them fitted to several types of bikes, they do have quirks and I will list them and the fixes.
1)The battery cover has to be nice and tight, if it is not you get corrosion and a sticky build up on the positive contact resulting in the unit resetting itself and the lights (backlights) turning on and off at random intervals. Fix by removing the battery cleaning the contacts and replacing battery. Use silicone neutral cure around the seal edge to stop this happening.
2)The temp guage does randomly stop working, simply push the reset button, (under the vapour with a straightened paperclip,- there is a hole supplied in the mounting housing if used), presto all good! incidentally these things turn to crap when you get to 131 Deg C, you need to press the reset and reset the time and any settings that have been wiped.
3) the units they say will work on any voltage and ac or dc any frequency, sorry but that is ********!, you can fit to motorcross bikes and hang it off the stator feed to the cdi but they do have a habit of resetting when you restart the bike. You are best to use a 1.2 Ah gell cell and make a diode tap off with a regulator with say a 500mA @ 13.8V DC charge feed to charge the battery and supply the Vapour, then all should be good.
4) You really need to fit to a bike with a battery
5) do not expect much from the tech guys at trailtech, hopeless is my most polite way of describing them.
6) KTM 300 / 380 EXC with the 110W 3 phase gen for some reason make these things do weird and wonderful things.
Summary, excellent units, but you must really fit to a bike with a battery, and you must seal the vapour at the battery cover.
Do that and all good.
(I have fitted to 07 DRZ400, 01 KTM380 EXC, KTM300 06, 08 KTM 300 EXC-e, Husaberg FE550 06, 06 RMZ450, and others, and have had 3 replaced under warranty in the last year until I sussed out the problems as above)
Just another note, if you leave then in direct sunlight in summer the entire face will show black starting with displaying all indicators in black first, cool down and reset with button and reload data)
The FE550 06 works on .5 pulses / rpm, tyre diameter 2205mm.

I respectively disagree. I've had gotten really good TS from Trail Tech. They are a great company with great product.

Hey Hair & Iceburg, how about fit-up to the Berg, do you need to replace any of the plugs or is it just plug and play?

also is it the KTM EXC kit or is it the LC4 kit that is compatible with the Husaberg? it seems that the EXC one should be a direct match up.

Cheers!

no they are not plug and play for the berg . I took the factory connectors off the stock unit . I had it done & about two hours. pretty easy & soooooo much better than the crap that came on the bike .

Thanks drgnrydr,

That is a really nice dash moutn too, is it a trailtech part? do you have the part number? or is it custom made - it looks like alloy, but there are no welds visible on the mounts.

did you buy the KTM kit or the universal kit??

I'll stop asking questions now... Cheers!

trail tech mount , the only thing I had to do was get two 1/4 " spacers & two 1/2" longer bolts

I fiitted the same to my bike and I can recommed the Vapor and the mount shown in the earlier pic.

Thanks guys, I found my multimeter by pure fluke the other day, when I get a chance between fitting out my shed, finishing wiring all of the power points and lights, putting in the new telly and surround sound and changing over the transmission in my old falcon, I will test the unit properly... Err no phuckit, might go for a ride first.

Azza.
