That makes perfect sense Pollo, I always thought they just welded the foot on mine crooked on accident!
*I lost the c clip and made one out of a spare spoke.
Fwiw, the stand will break eventually no matter what you do or don't do.
Especially, with the stand down if you:
Sit on the bike.
Stand on it.
Kick start it.
Try to pry the rear wheel off the ground to lube the chain or move the valve stem to a handy place.
Also, as I found out after doing none of the above... it will break eventually if you let it "hyper-extend" too many times unchecked.
Check it periodically for cracks and get it welded up before it breaks completely.
It's tough to get it welded at the proper angle after it breaks completely.
An FE with 17's needs a custom length somewhere between the FS and FE. It's just possible to have it work for 17" wheels and 21/18, but you have to plan where to park it.
To the gentleman that said his bike leaks fuel out of the overflow because it leans so much:
Methinks your float level is too high.
My bike/s never leaked until leaned past 45°.
