FE650 Knocking at low idle

I just finished rebuilding the bottom end of my 2006 FE650. The auto decompression stopper (hot rivet) backed out and snapped my cam chain. Damage wasn't too terrible, but I ended up addressing the flooding wore items: replating the cylinder, new Wossner piston, complete rod kit, both main bearings, countershaft bearing, cam chain, lower cam chain gear.

Rebuild went smoothly, although I'm still ironing out a few details. The bike seems difficult to start on the kick. Last year it was a one kick bike. This year, post-rebuild, and following the same starting procedure, it's not consistent at all. Electric start always works though.

The biggest concern, is this knocking. It only happens when the idle is low. Lower than normal idle. As soon as I rev it a little the Knocking goes away. It "feels" like how your drive chain slaps if you lug the engine too much in 6th gear.

Have a listen and let me know what you think.

Sounds like the auto decomp weight slapping about, it will travel a little further now that the end stop rivet is gone. It will swing until it hits the cam sprocket bolt. I just increased the idle on mine a little

Just found that knocking is actually a good thing. Because you know that your auto decomp is working. :)

yes it sounds like the ADC. it means that it is very strong and doing it's job.

just set the valve clearances again AND the carb.

you want to turn the PS until you get best idle and count. you also want to turn it in till you get a hanging idle - and count. report back. also let me know what your PJ is and your PAJ OK?

thanks
