I've been riding BMW and KTMs for a while now.
These days I find myself looking to off load the large road bike for a light adventrue/dirt bike.

I like the Honda XR650R. But I am looking for something that handles more like my 525.

The FE650 looks like a possable match. I know very little about this bike. So I need some help from you guys.

What is the oil capacity of an FE650?
Would be F650 compare better to the 525 or the LC4 when it comes to power and throttle response?

I want a bike that I can ride from 50 to 400 miles of paved road. And then hit Forest Roads, Mountain passes. Creeks, and more. I will be riding both north and south of the boarder. Mainly I want a bike that just rips.

FE 650

I am very happy with my 06 FE650, I had the same questions as you....Its OK on the street, short trips are fun, longer trips are"OK",A little bit of vibration but nothing major, I balanced the wheels and that helped ...Went to the KTM demo day and rode all the KTM's .FE is so much faster than any of the KTM's 525, LC4 etc.I was torn between the KTM dual sport 525 or the FE650, The 525 was much slower and felt heaver... Remember its a race bike not a touring bike so highway travel can be tough. Mine is street legal and i ride it to the trails. I am very happy with it, Just make sure you have good dealer support.. It holds about a quart of oil, You might think about the 450 or 550 because the 650 can be to much on tight trails........Vern

The Berg only holds a litre of oil. I personnally would not want to ride one more than 20-30 miles on pavement, Dirt roads would be an exception. Whatever you buy, make sure it has a cush hub. The FE Berg excels as a dirt bike but leaves alot to be desired on the pavement.

I run a HP2 and a berg 550, i would not want to do too many road miles to trails on the berg.......usually about 40 k's, then the fun begins, if i go to far off trails i stick it on the back of the ute then ride. The Hp2 i ideal for long hauling then hitting the trails. At the end of the day it's a race bike.......in its intended enviroment it is great
