FE650 converted to Supermoto... Fork Setup, Need Help

I have a 2004 FE650 i have recently converted to Supermoto... wheels, brakes, bits here and there. I currently have my forks apart because i am putting new fork seals in them. Before put them back together I wanted to get some advice from all of you about what i should do with my suspension! I have been sifting through this site looking for specific answers pertaining Suspension set up for a FE650 converted to Supermoto, but havent had much luck. I am not an expert or highly knowledgeable about suspension. One common thing i have read is to put bar risers and drop the forks through the triple clamps some, so i ordered bar risers 30mm. More specifically, what fork oil should i use 2.5wt, 5wt, 7.5wt? should i go stiffer or softer? what rebound & compression settings should I use? I am 5'9" 160lbs.

If there is any advice for the rear suspension too that would be greatly appreciated. Currently I have only set the Sag up and not touched anything else.

Thanks!!!!

I have put 500ml of 7.5wt in each leg and turned the lower compression clickers 28 away from the lowest setting out of 35. The front seems a bit stiff... coming down from a wheelie or hard front braking, i use all but maybe 2 inches of my travel. How do others have their supermoto front forks set up? do you use all of your travel?

I also have added bar risers and dropped the forks about 20 millimeters through the triple clamps. I seem to get much better turning from the dropped forks.

As for the rear shock, any suggestions? I weigh about 160lbs

Thanks!

on occasions like this, with the bike getting older, I suggest you buy used SM forks and at the same time put your FE forks up for sale.

don't touch anything. just buy. and sell. simple.

What SM wheels to use with the FE650?

Hi Lorenplante,

Could I ask what wheels you used for the supermoto conversion?

Thanks in advance,

this is a 10 year old thread Fraser?

some of these people might be dead?

in which case you may just be quite a while waiting for a reply!

Supermoto Conversion

Good point Taffy but with all of this time being isolated, I thought its worth a go lol!

(Plus i'm just learning the features of the site and LorenPlante hasn't been active since 2010)
