Hi folks
Im steve from suffolk and a total novice to off road riding so naturally got a fe650 for my first bike.. 8O ...been riding road bikes for a few years but now been drawn to the darkside...

Basically the clutch is dragging when in gear so guessing plates are worn and need replacing..is there anything else I should do/check..should I change springs too..best clutch to use..seals to replace..im sure you get my drift.

Many thanks people...im sure I be posting more "help please " posts so please be patient..

Enjoy cheers

Steve

basically a new clutch drum is required, not eeven the plates.

I do an upgrade kit to get it to 2003-2008 specs as well.

while you're there remove the gear selector fork and grind away the bits on the two plates that can bind into one another as well....

Many thanks taffy..shall pm shortly

for anyone interested in this upgrade I basically supply a later clutch drum, a set of steels to suit, all the tubes, some specially made shims, a "clutch pill", a new circlip and a set of instructions.

we also modify the clutch drum so the specialist bit is that we modify the drum, we do a 'pill' and we have some special shims made.

Zaga was one of the more recent people to take one but he hasn't said hoe it is going.... :D :D

No Sir, you are wrong, don't make me search for that post

Taffy, if you remember, after installing it, I've said that I was very happy

Anyway, my clutch was bad, I had already made some tricks to it, trying to fix it, and I could recover it a bit, but it was in the end of it's life (some grooves and the steel disks not very healthy).
So I've installed Taffy's kit, that is basically a recent clutch adapted to an older bike, and obviously it works very well, it's smoother to pull the lever and it's also smoother engaging.
Also I had 2 sets of good friction disks, newer and older model, so despite Taffy advising to use only the older model frictions, I've mixed 3 of the newer ones and there is no problem the basket can take those.

Forgot about the subject, but changing the clutch a bit to fit all new model frictions can be the next step to add value to this kit, also some more different shim thickness could be supplied to fine tune it better.

Last but not least, it's got great instructions

All considered I would advise to go to Taffy's solution, specially when you get to the point when you need changing your old steel disks.

So there you have my feedback ... again :D

Hi again

I have here now the old post that I was referring to (a friend just remind me of)

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=18069

And would like to add that if something needed to be filed, you should consider putting it there in the instructions, to make them more complete.

Hello Zaga

thanks for those kind words! and if nobody else here knew: Zaga does all my instructions free of charge!

you got three shims with the kit Zaga and another 1mm OEM shim (making 4)?

regards

Taffy

Hi Taffy

Not kind words, it's the truth, you have been doing for a long time, a great job adapting newer parts to older bikes.

And that was like you say a private joke, nobody else knew. And about the free thing ... there are no free lunches, I will be collecting those in beer some day !! :D :D :D

About the shims, now your in trouble !! You have missed one 1mm

Finally if the forks needs to be filed somehow, we should add that to the instructions
