Ok, I have been reading a lot of posts lately about the bergs, which one, what mapping to have, etc.
So, i decided to test it out.
I have an 09 FE570, this one :

My mate has a new 250exc F, this one :

We are not experts, but reasonably fast local club enduro riders, 4 hours, top twenty on a good race day.
We took the bikes to a woods area and set up a small circuit with a few jumps, a couple of berms, a small length of whoops and some trials type inclines, drop offs and rock ledges etc.
This sort of stuff:

Not bar banging, 1st gear tight stuff, fairly flowing for woods but at no time did i have a space big enough to open the throttle fully on the 570. I could do the whole lap in 2nd and 3rd. To be fair , i have the suspension set up for this terrain, mud and roots/rocks, and i have a rekluse pro and LHRB.
It was a dry day, but had been raining heavily during the night leaving a bed of leaves with a fairly slippery top surface. There were a few offs in the warm up rides but the lines and grip soon got better after a few laps.
I did a few laps on the 250 and its a nice, light, tractable bike, but my berg is also very agile once moving. The only time you really notice the weight difference is when doing tight S sections on full lock bar to bar. You have to really work the gearbox and be on the power all the time with the 250 which i dont like. You cannot be in the wrong gear when attacking a climb. Others, one coming off a 450 ktm really loved the powerband of the 250 and didnt mind working the gears.

So, down to the lap times then between the 570 and the 250.
We did a dozen laps in blocks of three separately with no other bikes in the way.
Initial laps had us neck & neck at just over 51 seconds.
By the final set of three laps i had all my laps at 50 secs dead and so did the 250.
I could not shave off even 100th of a sec and nor could he, it was a dead heat.

Now, heres an eye opener for the mapping.
I had been riding on the agressive /full power mode map no 2.
I then switched to no1 soft mode map and tried another set of three laps, feeling sure i could shave off some time.
I felt i was faster and was looking for a 49. something, then i looked at the times: 51.2, 51.1, 51.1.
Yep, the laps were over a second slower in the soft mode.

Cheers,
Nick.

Hi Brookester,
No maps to use on the 250, it was all stock, just 70 miles on the clock.
I am sure you could do a lot more to it . Cracking little bike for tight woods.
