Hello,
So i picked up a fe570 with 380hours now. I changed the oil and the oil fiter bolts were begining to strip. I knew i was going to get it fixed but i wanted to squeeze one more ride in, i checked if anything was leaking and it was fine, but when i already felt confident that it was ok i gave it full throttle for about 5secs and of course it ripped then straight out so the oil filter cover was leaking. I didn't notice so i basically ran the bike for exactly 5.1kms with low revs down a hill without any oil and oil pressure. When i stopped i noticed, got picked up with a trailer, filled with oil, tried the bike and everything seems fine. Checked valve clearance- ok, check camshaft( will try to add image) -seemed ok, checked for metal in oil - found nothing. The bike has full power, fully responsive and nothing seems wrong besides the fact on startup it makes a slight ticking sound that goes away with oil pressure. Im pretty certain it is the timing chain tensioner because it sounds exactly the same as a video on youtube ( and it comes from the left side of the engine). I will try to somehow share a video of my bike sound. I basically have a couple of questions. Do the cam lobes look ok?, Could the tensioner get damaged when it ran without oil, or was it just a coincidence that it failed at the same time? What part of the engine was mainly starved of oil? (My guess would be head was the first part withou oil. If anyone has experience with a situation like this, and could tell me what is the first thing that will get damaged i would appreciate it. Im really bummed about it because it was such a stupid avoidable mistake, but im damn happy i didnt seize the engine and it basically runs like new.
Thank you
