Hi Guys,

Hailing from the land of Oz and looking at replacing my DRZ400SM with something a bit more dirt worthy and hopefully equally as street worthy (so it must be a plated model). I've decided I'm going to chase something with EFI (it boggles my mind that dirt bikes still use carbs).

My options therefore are:
(2009-2012) Berg FE570/FS570 (can't see the FS listed for sale anymore).
(2012) KTM EXC 500
(2010?-2012) Husky TE511
(2012) Yam WR-450F

I'm not particualrly keen on the Yam since it is going to be a street bike as well, I like the idea of a six speed to be able to keep the revs reasonable on the road.

First up:
Does anyone know of the changes that have occurred in the Bergs between '09 and '12? (or have a link?)
It is a substantial saving to go a second hand 09 Berg over the '12 (approximately $4.5K) but I'm wondering if there were a lot of issues with the first release that have been tweaked and fixed over the last few years....

Second:
I'm concerned about the oil quantity in the berg, I was thinking of persuing the mod detailed in this thread to increase oil capacity:
http://www.expeditionportal.com/veh...want-a-lightweight-adventure-travel-bike.html
Is there any reason that I shouldn't do this or are there other better options?

Finally:
If anyone has any thoughts on the big Berg as an all purpose bike, or any 'must do mods' then please let me know!

Cheers all, and I hope you have a wonderful Chrissy

I haven't found the need to monkey with the oil capacity on the 570. Changing the oil isn't difficult, and it's not terribly expensive. Remove the smog gear, replace the factory muffler with something, anything that will allow the motor to breathe, and you have one of the Great Bikes.

the bergs oil capacity is one of the reasons I bought it! My old ktm had like a 900ml capacity. The berg is nearly double that.
I dont think you would need to do that oil mod unless you were riding the bike like that guy in the post; massive long distances across countries.

I had a DRZ400 S before I got into Husabergs and you will LOVE LOVE LOVE the difference it you like to go offroad. The DRZ is a super all around bike, simple to keep going, but heavy and not as much fun or refined like the EFI Husabergs. I bought a 08 FE 450 and then this year a 10' FE 450 that was easy to add a plate. It's so much fun off road and on road it's a real treat so nimble yet stable at speed. I do my own maintenance and the Bergs are easy to work on IMHO. The oil is a snap to change (try changing oil on a Montesa 4RT!) and it's kinda of like moving ahead 15 years going from a DRZ to a Husaberg.

Hi all,

Does anyone know about the changes between the model years, or perhaps any common issues or weaknesses that I should look out for in a second hand 09 FE570?

I think they went to brembo brakes/changed bar clamps and went nekin bars engine is the same for all 570's pretty sure all have WP suspension maybe a few other changes. 2012 they painted frame yellow. Basically a KTM only dif. is frame/engine/better center of gravity due to 90 degree head. Do find one and you will be amazed makes my KX 500 feel like my HD!!!!! :D

Okay, cheers for the info.

Not many dealers around me, but planning to head off and look over a KTM 500 EXC and FE570 mid next week, might get some insights from that.

Cheers.

hmmm, FS650e for sale for 6k....maybe the separate motard and dirtbike option is more financially possible than I thought

Don't know much about the FS650e, I'll have a search on here, but if anyone has any thoughts then let me know.

Cheers

I bought a 2011 FE 570 in Sept. I have 15 hrs on it. I can't believe this bike, comparing it to my Husky 450 and my RM 250 it feels more like my 2stroke as far as weight. The power was a dissapointment till I modified the pipe a bit. Now when it hooks up I have to be paying attention or else....

Can hardly wait for spring, and all the fun we gonna have. No regrets buying this bike.

The Neken bar on 2011 is *****! It's so soft that it reminds chewing gum when comparing it to older 2010 Magura bar or any other aftermarket Renthal / Pro Taper. I actually bent it totally on small crash, and went to Pro Taper contour. Been fine since then after several harder crashes.

Other changes are quite small and similiar. Some mods done in 2011 to steering stem to make it more rigid and stable handling (didn't really notice anything when rode friends 2010) and throttle body intake flange modded for better flow (?).

All these are so small differences that you can't hardly notice. Fuel pump issue seems to be the biggest one. Pre 2011 and 2010 happen to have most problems with dead pumps between 20-50hours of use. My friend had 45h on his 2010 with no issues and my 2011 with 55h also no issues. But the bikes only saw street riding and some gravel roads.
