I picked up a mini-toggle switch from radio shack - SPDT middle off (on-off-on). I will put a 15K ohm on one end, a 6.8K on the other and tie them together. The harness connects to the middle terminal on the switch and the two resistors. That gives me all three settings with one very small switch.

Does anyone know where I can get a connector that will plug into the harness? I checked an auto parts store but they didn't have one. If I can't find one I will have to cut off the connector from the harness - but I would rather not.

Can someone please clarify? I suspect 15k and 6.8k and open are the correct choices to get all 3 map settings, but I would like some verification before I build it up.

*****, I made a mistake. Sorry Sorry Sorry. Will try and update my diagram.
You are correct the 2 resistors should be 15K and 6.8K (The 4.7K is wrong)

If I was to do it again I would just use a 2 way Switch with aggressive and soft. I never use standard.

Great, ordered the resistors on the back of your drawing, now one of them is wrong and I need anther one!!! :cuss:

Thats 20p you owe me Davo  I'll settle for a weeks riding in Oz

70 Degree Racing sell a Map Switch with the plug on it ready to go. I would have purchased one but they were only available after I made mine

I stuck to the modified indicator switch. The only thing that concerned me slighty was if you accidently flicked the switch while on the move (thinking it could damage the ECU maybe?) so I made a guard for it to prevent that happening.

I found an alternate way to build the map switch. I didn't have a 15k ohm resistor in my stash of junk, but I did have a 6.8k and an 8.2k. This new way is a little easier to build too.

I haven't yet figured out how to insert an image, so I attached the schematic for two methods of building the switch.

Checkout the waterproof connector, I think it's the same. If not, you get both male and female plugs so you can replace the whole thing. I've ordered a 2pin plug so i'll let you know if it fits ok.

nick790 - that does look like the same connector. Now I need to find a USA distributor. If you find a part number when you get it, please post the info.

Thanks.

Thanks.

When it's in my sweaty hand i'll check it for names and numbers and post it up.

Shouldn't the wire guage used for the MAP switch to the MAP input connector be relatively the same, due to resistance issues with the wire?

Define "relatively".
Given that most garden variety resisters have a 5% error, 6800ohms / 5% = 340ohms variable, then one would need to run a massive cable to create the extra resistance to upset the reading. most people wont have cable anywhere near big enough to cause trouble (and one couldn't ride ones bike with such a big bit of cable hanging from the bars).
Short answer.... anything between .2 and 1.5mm2 tinned(anti corrosion) flex(anti vibration) would be suitable. Very low current in the circuit so no need for big conductors.

I've bought 3 plugs and will just fit a resistor in them and make plug in dongles. I will probably just leave the aggressive one plugged in :)

Here is my map switch built with a mini-toggle on-off-on SPDT from Radio Shack.

And here is the finished switch with connector and heat shrink.

I used option B from this schematic.

I need the male connector side under the headlight becasue the wires severed right at plug. I was looking on bmmotorsports for the maiting part to the female side but could not find the plug assembly, any suggestions or anyone know what the part number would be?

thanks

Ahh, perhaps this would be the other side of the plug.

I like the idea of a two resistor switch, but what values do I use? 15k and 6.8k as the instructions suggest? Or 6.8k and 4.7k as Davo's updated drawing shows? If the instruction sheet is correct, Davo's drawing will give you aggressive, standard, and standard - you can't get to soft.

Hi Dee I fixed my 2 resistor diagram. Well spotted and I have given myself an upper cut to the head

I know this is old but have just ordered a FX450. looking to make a Map Switch for it.
new to the Euro/EFI bikes, as I have been riding Jap/Carby bikes in the past.

 Can I used 1/4W Resistors with this?

Ill post up some pictures of the build.

Cheers,
