Can any body tell me if the down tube on the frame shoud be straight, on the FE550 (04) that I have bought the down tube apears to be slightly bent in an out would direction in turn the back of the front mudguard is rubbing on the down tube.
Allso the collector exhuast box is rubbing on the top of the clutch casing and also on the cain chain adjuster.

Hi Sparks,
Yes, the downtube does have a slight bend in it (toward the front wheel). My fender misses by just 2mm.
You could;
A. take a heat gun to the fender and bend it for clearance or
B. Add a couple of washers to the rearward fender bolts to shim it forward.

With the exhaust collector;
You might start by loosening all of the mounting bolts including header bolts then see if you can move the exhaust slightly where it needs to go. It may stay at the desired position. If not, some other form of persuasion may be needed ie; block of wood, pry bar. 8O

Before you start on the fender verify the the spacers are correct.The rear two down and the front two up .

Thanks for that Logjump, the rear two washers had been put back up side down.
New fender required anyway this one is carrying a running repair two bits of tin and four rivetts.
Regarding the wood which some of the lads seem to think you are an expert on which would you go for Mapel or a nice peice of hard Red Wood. :lol: :lol:

Regards

Sparks.
