FE501 ignition coil

Hi.
I found this forum some weeks ago and have discovered a lot of useful information. But still could'nt find answer for that - I just bought an 01 FE501 (still waiting for bike to arrive), with broken ignition and ignition coil (at least previous owner said that). Thanks to this forum I know now what should I do with ignition stator (sparks, thanks for reply!). But is there an easy way to check and measure ignition coil? What are correct parameters? How common are ignition coil faults at all, maybe this is only a simple spark plug cap fault or something what previous owner couldn't discover?
And when my ignition coil is still broken, from where can I get replacement for that (local Husaberg dealer asked 350€ (460$))? I am located in Europe, if that matters.

a broken coil is far rarer than a broken SEM! so i would check out the SEM first and if in any doubt-get it done. you should be able to get a second hand ignition coil quite cheaply whereas the SEM is expensive used and if sparks has priced his market just about correctly: it's just about better to have it repaired than to buy a new one!

the cap is easy to test for resistance.

try kicking the bike in the dark if you think the HT spark is escaping.

regards

Taffy
