Fe501 1996 - need help in wiring headlight

Hi,

I bought my bike 2 years ago and it had no front light (it had a motocross mask) and ever since then I tried to connect the wires that I have under the fuel tank to the front light that I put there - but every time - the light bulb burns out when I open the throttle more than half way.

I assume its because its not going right through the rectifier.
can someone please explain in simple words how do I connect it ?

I have three participants in this problem:
1. the wires coming out of the magneto coil
2. the weird connector in a shape of a rose (which is not connected to anything but the frame)
3. another plastic thing (rectifier maybe?) which has I think 2 wires coming out of it (yellow wire and blue if memory serves - I am not near the bike..)

your help is appreciated

Electricals

Hi, Jacob80...
Look in the "Downloads" section on the left-hand sidebar , there is a wiring diagram for a '97 fe400, in color. Should be fairly close to yours, but there is a series break '89-'96, then '97- for some equipment.....
For more info - tons of info - look at the "Owners Document " in the downloads, or over on the left hand sidebar for a direct link. Once you get there, for Electrical, just scroll down the menu and click into the section. Lots of info on numerous electrical niggles covering a whole bunch of years....

RE: Electricals

Thanks, I saw it, however didn't understand a thing...
I will try to clarify: I have a stator with red, green, black, blue and yellow wires.
On the bike I have 1 yellow wire connected to something that appears to be the coil.
other than that I have NOTHING on the bike - electricity-wise. the previous owners stripped it down.
I am now trying to connect the head light. currently, I have some improvisation which makes the bike run. it also generating power to the light but I assume it is unrectified because one open throttle is enough to burn the light.

If some one could tell me in simple words - "take the yellow connect to the red..." - this will very much help me.
