FE450 bore size

given how oversquare it is some would say the engine lacks some toeque on paper. in reality it seems ok. such a truly oversquare engine could perkhaps do with being DOHC.

thanks for the response Taffy...being 450 bergs are seldom seen in this very orange part of the country, I'm trying to get an impression of how the bore and stroke translate into seat of the pants horsepower...I'd sure like to ride one before plunking down the bucks!

The 450 is an interesting motor:

very soft on the very bottom yet starts to build torque quickly thereafter

revs fast like a 2 stroke

at first feels like it may need more flywheel weight yet does not stall

no noticeable hit, very smooth

feels like a 250 two stroke with no hit and a lot of compression braking

huge change in power delivery compared to my 01 470 which has almost too much of a
bottom end hit

my first impression was that the motor was not very fast due to that lack of hit as soon as you crack the throttle, now I appreciate the smoothness and control this motor offers and wouldn't want it any other way.

You'll love the 450 engine.Trust me it's got torque it's still a thumper just a more civilized one.
The smooth linear charcateristic of the engine will certainly be appreciated on technical single track trail if that's you're intended purpose.
