FE400E NEED ADVICE

PLEASE provide any insight you might have fast. I plan to buy a 2001 Husaberg FE400e. I have been adivsed this year had engine problems with rocker arms and crank balancers. Would you buy one of these or not? I have no history on the bike. I like the bike but don't want to buy a problem. My other option is to buy a 2004 Husqvarna TE400. It was enduro of the year in 04, but I like Husabergs better. Thanks

The 400's seem to hold up the best for that year. As far as the Husky goes, the TE450 was Enduro bike of the year in 04. The Huskys in 04 were plagued with valve, carburetor and kickstart issues. I would not buy an 04 4 stroke Husky 250/450 unless the valve and kickstarter updates had been performed.

Hi there longshanks,

When updates have been done, that bike can be as trouble free as any other. There is a rocker update to be done, but often, you'll find it's already been taken care of by a previous owner.

Take a close look at it. Ask if any updates have been taken care of yet. You will find some VERY important upgrade info here. Print it out and take it with you. You might get a discount on the bike :)

thanks,

Thanks. You are right the Husky is a 450. I really want the 01 FE400e but need more information to feel like I am making the right decision. Your input was helpful. Gary

we know what they need and if you do the jobs listed it will be reliable. i have the '02 of your bike and i would suggest that if you're a home mechanic - buy it. if you're not, don't, you can't afford the work to be done.

the work being:
rockers either upgraded or the follower bearings being renemed evey now and again.
cam wheel may be alloy but needs to be steel.
camtensioner mod, blade updated, new camchain from '05+
cam bearings renewed

balancer will be ok as will most bearings.

you can go further with lots of little jobs but essentially you've broken the back of it here.

regards

Taffy
