Hi there,new to the site,new to husaberg.Have a cooked starter ,wondered if anyone new of an equivalent non Husaberg starter that will fit.Have tried a R6 same part no sm14 but too long,help.......Regards Matty

FE400E Starter Motor
Thanks for that,can I just clarify.My longer R6 motor which has the same marking Mitsuba SM14 will fit my 2003 FE400E with a post 04 650 bracket ?The R6 motor fits perfectly onto the flywheel the only issue is the length.Will I have to change the back third of the starter motor for the original one because there are different mounting points and if so ,will the new R6 starter with the original FE400E rear third fit in tandem with a 650 Husa bracket ???

Wish I could answer you definitively, But I will defer to someone who actually knows. I have not done the modification myself. I just know it has been done.

If your starter is the same as a 04 and up 550/650 then all you need is the starter motor bracket. The only outward difference in appearance between the two starters is that the 550/650 one is a little longer. I cannot ascertain whether or not your starter is an exact match but if it were me I would order the bracket and if your starter does not fit the bracket get a starter off of a 04 and up 550/650.
If your bracket has the allen screws holding it on I would also get the hex head screws as the offset to accommodate the longer starter makes it impossible to turn the allen screws without using needle nose vise grips.

I think it may be easier to replace the starter with one of the same length,save on buying mounting brackets and have it sticking out a little "proud"Anyone know of an equivelant starter from another manufacturer that will fit the FE400E 2003 ?
Unfortunatly, all I have heard of was the one that was a bit longer. There may be some others out there but as far as i can remember, no one here has found it yet.
