I was reading the Doc and found the section on frame idenifying numbers. My 10th digit is a 3 then is 0000008 which to me would be a very early 03 model however compliance states 8 month of 02. I dont have the forks with spring preload adjustment caps and am also wondering if my engine has the few problems of the 02 ? Is the only way to find out a engine apart job ?
Thanks in advance, Dan

i don't know what a compliance is but if the bike was out and about in august 2002 then it is a late 2002 model. the '03s don't come out till november. the '03 has an earth wire in a clear tube to the battery. it also has very large axle pins compared to the '02.

if you're saying that the "8" identifies the month of manufactur then it's news to me! i thought we could only deduce the year.

regards

Taffy

Danielson,
Your bike is a 2003 model going by your Vin number. The 10th digit in the 17 digit long frame number is the year model of the vehicle, pre 2000 this digit is a letter.

Mines an 03 model built 9/02.
Its got a mixture of the 02 and 03 parts.
Its got the 03 rocker arms and 2 bearing counter balancer but the 02 clutch basket and wiring loom.
The rest is pretty much the same I think - someone correct me if I'm wrong.
The 03 counter balancer has been superceeded now anyway.
You should keep an eye on the rocker bearings on all the models up to current.

Hi Taffy the compliance plate is just a small alloy plate fixed to the frame needed in Australia for registration, it has the VIN mubers on it as well as the build date in my case 8 month of 2002. My bike has 20mm axles front and rear, not sure about the other stuff.
Cheers Dan
