FE400 Supermoto

Hi everyone,

I am looking at buying a 1999 FE400. The bike is street registered, has a fresh top end, and overall has barely been ridden. Back in the day I had an FE501 that was great. It was a very enjoyable bike and I never had any problems with it.

Anyways, I am interested in picking up the FE400 with the intentions of making it a street going supermoto. Would this bike be a good bike for the street with a set of wheels, brakes, and proper gearing? Would the suspension work okay being it is an enduro model or will it be much too soft?

Finally, the seller is asking $2,700 for the bike. Being that it is street registered and has very low mileage on it, is the price about right?

I appreciate the help!

I think you're going to get trouble I'm afraid. 11 years of AGE is the problem and then a stressed motor. it deserves a better life at that age.

Age and engine wear aside, is this bike capable of being a decent street going supermoto? After a bit of research, it seems the 50mm conventional *********** forks were quite good back in the day, considered better than the USD's at the time...

I would say that the 400 is a bit small for road use, I'd rather use something with a little moore grunt so I don't have to shift gears so often.
The suspension will be soft, the forks will dive noticeably during braking. Some can live with it, some can't.
You might make it better if you turn up the compression in the forks but I don't know if that will be enough and it might make the forks feel harsh.
