Dellorto carb all recommended jets main#185 needle #dr270 pilot #33 start #45 tried #40 but holes at bottom in bowl the 45 the holes at the top no improvement with #40 clip 2 ,1 turn out on mixture screw new float and float needle and seat ,needle is k51.
Issue is fouling plug when choke used to start ,bike won't start from cold with out 4 kicks on full choke then let choke out and she fires up blows smoke then runs fine. Can ride it for a day but the plug gets fouled on the next cold start and only on Choke ,which I proved by starting from hot with clean plug no choke ran it for couple of minutes plug was ok .Tried it with choke start ran 3 minutes checked plug was black on it's way out !.Using the lp gas clean method to save the plug but it's frustrating and it's totally necessary to use the choke to initially start from cold ,like i say 4 kicks then off the choke and a good kick and she's a way running ,dosen't fire with out using choke initially .Warmed up it starts easily no choke .Any idea's I'm favoring changing to a FCR carb to solve this

Mine would foul plugs easy also . Replaced needle jet as it was oval worn ,needle was perfect , doesn't make sense needle to have such influence in starting , but does . 97 vhsb . Is yours a phm ?

plug

Hi Chris. It sure sounds like you need one heat range hotter plug. The plugs need to slowly reach 500 degrees. Under that, engine won`t start or run right. After starting with cold engine, you want to bring plug temp up gradually. Do this over the first 10 mins of riding by being gentle with throttle. Very rapid heating of the plug results in glazing, after which the plug will never work as well. A big plus of this routine is the whole engine warms through evenly. Less wear, more power, bigger smiles. L

Tried a hotter plug .Checked Atomiser it looks round to the naked eye very subjective though, definately old and showing signs of age .Will start and warm bike up then run with clean plug to confirm fouling only happening on start up.

What is the idle set at. Try turning idle down a tad and then starting with choke on. Cant say for Husa as mine is injected but I do know Hondas are very bad for this. If the idle is 100 rpm to high the bike will flood, foul plug and so forth.
