fe400 carb help

I recently got a 2003 400E model from the local Husqvarna dealer (in Romania, Eastern Europe),
the bike was not running, the stator was shot, the local husaberg shop change it with a new one, and the bike run, but was suffering from poor starting,
in the way that when cold it felt like the fuel has not enough, but once it started it ran fine, until restating, witch was sometime ok, but would still need a few
serious cranks, until one day when it left me for dead in the middle of a forest......

The local husaberg shop was not in the mood to work on it, the reason they gave me is
that in their experience the poor starting was a known problem with the dellotro equipped bikes, and the only solution is a 500 euro new keihin ........

Sow I had to get to the bottom of this my self, I got the repair manual and the info on the forum.....
I changed the battery with a new varta 4 A ( and plan a 7 or 11 A unit under the seat coupled with a starter mod for later ),
I cleaned the dellorto, checked the jetting and found a very strange jetting compared with the manual :
main jet : 185
needle jet: 270 DR
pilot jet: 33
choke jet: 40

From the diagram of the carb, http://www.dellorto.co.uk/editor/upload ... HMdiag.pdf ,
I do not have item nr. 4 the Idle emulsion tube under the pilot jet, I think.

From my research I found that tow version are on sale, can some one tell my which one to buy ?

I'm thinking to try the following setting from the husaberg.org site :
200MJ, DR266, K35 needle on C1, 40PJ, 3.25mm slide cutaway, 45 choke jet

From my research I have seen that the reasons that can affect the starting can be very complex, but since the electrics are ok,
I'm thinking that may be a fueling problem, and I should fix this before moving to other mechanical factors ?

What do you guys think ?

Thank you,
Alex.

********.
The bikes with Dellorto is not more difficult to start than any Keihin carb bike.
Change the Needle and needlejet.
Needle K51 and Atomizer 272DR
And clean the carb.
Have two -00 400 engines
Mainjet 210
PJ 33
SJ 40
Needle K51
Atomizer 272DR
and get a Mixture Jet tube tube (250 194 01)

Starts and run well both warm and cold.

Jampe

the 2000 is a different animal to the 2003 Jampe.

the correct jetting Alex for your 400 is:

185MJ
DR272 atomiser
K51 needle
33PJ

I would stick to this and buy a new atomiser and needle as well as a smaller choke jet at a #40. i do a kit on ebay.

regards

Taffy

Ok.
Who knows it better than you, Taffy ;-)
If i go down under 210 in main the bike don`t feel good on high revs and the sparkplug is snowwhite (Swedish snow)

Regards Jampe

if you have a hot plug say a 7 that will give you a white plug.

I always ran a white plug even with an 8 or a 9 in there.

Taffy

I had similar problems with my 2003 400. The emulsion tube is a must so get that fitted. Here's a link to my old thread on jetting viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7611&p=65994#p65994
I eventually went to a used kehin 39 fcr mk1. Not sure I ever got the jetting just right with the delorto so don't take too much from my jetting. Search my other posts for carb stuff; it might help...

thank you guys for your kind interest,

Loz16h , after reading your post, I recognize some of the same problems, in my case the choke does not help,
when I use it the bike is not even turning, it bogs down after 1-2 turns.....
After a while I found that I could open the choke and give it 1-2 pedals, and then close it and use the e-starter.

I have never manage to start it with the pedal, but being my first bike, but I blame it on my lack of experience.....

Since I'm a beginner rider, all I want is for the bike to start, I'm not after top end power for the moment, sow
I think I will try a kit from Taffy, and install the missing emulsion tube, and also the choke jet o ring that I did
not know it was missing until now :)

thank you again
Alex.
