I'm sure there's a question in there, but I'm buggered if I can find it.
Could you try again with real sentences please?

usually it is the other way around. they start on the kick but just winde on the leccy motor.

if you have no slack then it is probably your technique. nobody fires them like I do.

don't kick with your body
just kick with your leg, that's all that moves
when you kick - kick with as much speed as you can so your leg is a 'blur' so to speak

as for the 35PJ. they needed them new but as they get older the 33pj is fine. that is why your leccy is propbably working well which is what 99% of people here dream of....

Close enough for 'guvvy' work as they used to say when I were a lad...

I agree with Taffy on this: the 33PJ should work OK. I'm using a Dellorto on my Fe400e and it starts very easily (e-start or kick). There was a lot of fiddling required, but for the carb I'm using either a 34 or a 33PJ (cannot remember and all my notes are in the workshop). Follow the doc. It really is a mine of information if you're prepared to read. I presume your reading is much better than your writing!! :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Having said that, if your bike e-starts well, there's likely very little wrong with it. Attend to your kickstart technique and all should be well. This works well enough for me to start my bike from cold wearing crocs:

1) choke on, manual decompressor pulled, kick five times;
2) release decompressor, press kickstart to get to TDC compression, pull decompressor to ease just past TDC;
3) check decompressor is released and choke is on, kickstart at top of stroke... and kick!

First time, almost every time.

I kick with my right leg, stood to the left of the bike (I've a dodgy left knee) with the stand retracted. If I'm wearing boots I find it much easier if I stand on a something at least 20cm high with my left leg so I can get my balance correct.

One last thing, Taff's 'crescent mod' helps a lot! You can thank me later Taffy...

Good luck, and don't give up.

Cheers... P

he has it already I think he said?

I would also mention that changing the decomp to a manual choke cable at the bars is a great help. and presuming that it already has my spruce up kit in it and therefore a 40 choke jet I would say that kicking with the choke on for as many kicks as he likes would do. but you'd need to confirm whether it has a 40 or a 45 choke jet in it. also it is the first jet to get blocked when the bike isn't used much.

you have hit on somthing,i can kick my old 2000 640 ktm that diddnt have a auto decomp,so my tec has to be good :eek: ,ha ha now after i rebuilt the bike didnt play with the motor too much i put the decomp back slack on both cables after starting problems,then i found a blocked pilot jet it would start on the e start ok,but not kick start then found thet with someone kicking it was better with the L BRACKET AT ABOUT 90DEG on the auto decomp then read the manual and saw how the auto decomp can be set up TAFFY can you do away with the auto decomp and do a Choke mot then?

we leave the auto decomp to its own devices, then we use the manual cable to the choke.

not necessarily. my 400's have always felt a lot different than my 501-650's and my kickstart only 400 felt totally different than my estart 400. the basic rule of four strokes still applies tho, you need to start your kick a hair past tdc compression. the problem is finding it on an estart 400.
