Hello all
My bike fires fine on the kick but Will not start on the button at all???
I have replaced the battery with a "beefy" Lipo type with around tree times the cranking Amps and upgraded the wiring since the battery now sits under the Seat...
It turns over but Will not run at all on the button???

My theory are:

-the starter is not turning it over fast enough because the Stator /ignition system needs å certain rpm to give a spark

If so, anybody that could reccomend a aftermarket replacement ignitionsystem?
This would as i see it also ease the kickstarting...

Any ideas on this?

Buy a r6 starter on ebay its a bit bigger and stronger
I fit one on my old 650 - 01 and it start on The button everytime cold as warm

Hello Andy

the starter motor is NOT your problem. just 60 minutes ago i got off the phone with a customer with a 2003 FE400e and he wanted one and i explained that it won't be the starter motor unless someone has burnt the guts out of it!

I have a few videos on my Taffmeisters FB page about ignition timing. see if you can't get that right OK?

secondly, the valve clearances.

you must be able to do morse code on the rocker arms and hear the 'tick-tick' by the rear number plate...just.

one of the videos is about 'all you need to do to start a Husaberg'.

the second most important thing after the auto decomp and spring upgrade (2004 decomp + my little spring) is to have an easystart kit in the carb. I guess third would be ignition timing. there are about 6 more but decomp and carb kit come top.

it won't be thee starter motor. yes on a 650 but no to a 400.

Taffy,
So you are saying that an engine that are firing straight straight UP on the kickstarter , idles as it should
Both with choke when kold, without when warm and Runs like a beast is faulty?

Firstly: the ignition timing ?
Surely should be noticable on a running motor, either by "knock" or "ping" etc.( but checked ok!)

Secondly: the valve clearances?
Maybe the "Morse code" method works for you but i prefer a good quality feeler gauge and adjust to specifications (but checked ok!)

You say "watch a video on starting a Husaberg"???
Hello? Did you read what I wrote? I have NO problem starting it!!!

You say I need a "auto decomp and spring upgrade"? Why? (Auto decomp checked ok!)

You say I need a "easystart kit in the carb." Again Why???

The bike was sold with a working electrik starter (that started the bike actually) so what is the reason I need to upgrade the decomp system and/or the jetting in the carb?

You say it is absolutely NOT the starter motor? Please explain why so bombastic?

I have been working with production machines, both purely mechanical to fully automated production lines for 25years as a technical engineer and I'm not a novice on the 4stroke Ottoprinciple motor...
So if you could elaborate in more detail how you come to your conclusions? It will be higly appreciated

you can kickstart an engine quicker than it can be started with the electric starter.

so you are looking at why and what you can do about it.

it is how you overcome those differences that helps start the bike.

different fueling
decompressing

they are the main two.

I didn't say to do your tappets by morse code, what I said and meant was that when you have completed the valve clearances, they should pass muster on this check. it's a simple little way of checking they are right because as you will know, 3 people can get three different results from doing valve clearances.
